Language Arts
Language Arts encompasses reading fluency, reading comprehension, writing, speaking, listening and visual literacy. LaFontaine Preparatory School has chosen Literacy by Design to be our Language Arts curriculum. You can learn more about Literacy by Design by clicking here. Rest assured, this is one of the strongest curriculums available nation-wide. We are happy to bring it to Richmond!
Math
Everyday Mathematics is currently used by ten out of ten elementary schools in Madison County Public Schools. Everyday Mathematics will serve as the best introduction to math concepts for your child in his or her preparation to attend Madison County Schools. Art
Imagine your child gaining an appreciation for the arts by using acrylic paints on canvas or using chalk pastels. Have you ever considered introducing your child to graphic design? These are some of the artistic skills that LaFontaine Preparatory School will introduce them to. Our art instructor, Mrs. Dawna Bennett, is highly skilled in multiple mediums. We are anxious to deliver a truly unique experience in art to your child. Our learners receive art training every Tuesday and Thursday. It's extremely difficult to describe the great projects students at LaFontaine Prep complete. Watch the video below for an example of this project that we contributed to the 2011 Madison County Unity Breakfast.

Dance and Movement
Miss Margaret, as she is affectionately known to her students, has taught dance and movement for many years. She currently owns and operates Loves to Dance Studio in Berea, Kentucky. It is vitally important for four-year-olds to learn body control and movement in their formative years. Whether they find application in a continued pursuit of dance, enjoyment through athletics, or simply gaining coordination and balance, students at LaFontaine Prep will be exposed to the wonderful services of Miss Margaret every Monday. Miss Margaret doesn't do anything small. See some of the fun her students regularly participate in by viewing the video below.
Children's Yoga
Kay Funk and Ashleigh Waechter teach children's yoga at LaFontaine Prep on Wednesdays. Students benefit from their energy, experience, and excitement. Yoga teaches children the motor skills necessary to maximize physical development as well as techniques that help students focus and concentrate. Learn more about the benefits of children's yoga by watching this piece by CBS News. Learn more about Kay and Ashleigh here.

Technology
We embrace technology at LaFontaine Preparatory School. When implemented correctly, technology can be a valuable tool to further educational goals. Learn how we can effectively use technology in the classroom by reading this article published by Gus LaFontaine in the Journal Social Studies and the Young Learner. Our students will be instructed through iPads, connect to the world through web camera dialogue, enjoy Google Art Project on a high definition 55” flat screen, and tap into the world's best practices through the World Wide Web. The world is connected like never before and LaFontaine Preparatory School is ready to channel it!
